The Immortal Clan (Vampire)
The Immortal Clan has existed—or perhaps merely been—for tens of thousands of years, far longer than the Elves, while retaining the appearance of the young and beautiful.
The characters in the story sometimes call them the Timeless.
To them, humans are, first and foremost, prey. At times, they seem to interfere with the course of events on little more than a whim.
Yet they also take in and raise the children of mortal beings—humans, Elves, dragons, and others whose lives are finite and whose flames of life burn for only a limited time. They watch those children grow, then take pleasure in seeing what they accomplish.
Perhaps, to the Immortal Clan, it is much like watching the life of a beloved pet.
To them, fragile and vulnerable humans are miracles simply because they exist. They are beautiful. They are precious.
That is why the Immortal Clan does not prey indiscriminately. They choose their quarry.
And at times, they seem less like hunters than cold, solitary, absolute observers, standing outside the flow of time and watching the brief lives of mortal beings unfold.

The Nature of Magic
In this story, magic is a force whose source lies within the Earth itself.
Its influence grows stronger the farther one moves from the light of the sun. For that reason, magic is thought to be, in some form, a manifestation of the power of Earth—Gaia.
The most familiar example of Earth's power is gravity.
Like Newton's famous apple, our bodies and everything attached to them possess the property we call mass, and through that property we are subject to the immense force of the Earth. Gravity forms one of the fundamental conditions upon which life on Earth depends.
Gravity is not the only force the Earth possesses. Geomagnetism is another obvious example.
There is also a theory that the decay of radioactive elements within the mantle plays an important role in the energy released by the Earth.
In this story, those who possess the ability to harness such forces through certain properties are capable of manipulating magic.

Edgar Harton
The power of Edgar Harton, leader of the Immortal Clan, is fundamentally an interference with entropy itself through the manipulation of multidimensional space. His power can produce supernatural phenomena that tear pieces out of space or twist space-time itself.
For this reason, Edgar is feared as a God of Destruction.
